Item: Tresco garden, the Avenue
Description: A photograph of the 'Avenue' within the gardens of Tresco Abbey at Tresco, the Isles of Scilly. The garden was built based around the ruins of St Nicholas Priory, which had fallen into disrepair in the sixteenth century. An unknown man wearing a bowler stands in the pathway; the gardens were open to the public in this period. Palm trees and agaves line the Avenue. The Branwell family were on good terms with the family and liked to swop plants.
Condition: Good - discolouration to the top edge of the photograph.
