Item: Gulval Mill
Description: JR Branwell's 'Penzance steam flour mills' at Vellanhoggan, Gulval. An unknown man dressed in working clothes stands in the garden in front of the building. Some young trees have recently been planted. The taller section of the building is capped with a large water tower, which JR Branwell installed after a fire in 1865. Within the mills was an engine and boiler house, a wheelwrights shop and stables that housed 24 horses. In 1883, there were three engines producing 210 h.p and a 50 h.p water wheel. With a workforce of 26, the output was 1000 sacks per month.
Condition: Good - discolouration to the top and right edge of the photograph.
