Identification
Item: Cornish luggers at the North Pier, Newlyn
Description: Mackerel boats alongside Newlyn North Pier before it was extended in 1894. The front boat can be identified as 'PZ 132 Swan'. All but the second have their sails rolled up and groups of men stand on the pier. It can be dated between 1886-1892, between which times the North Pier was built, and then extended. In 1899, 13 luggers were wrecked leading to the extension of the South Pier between 1913-15. The boat next to PZ132 is possibly 'PZ18 JJM' (1886-91)
Condition: Good - small amount of foxing along the edges of the photograph.
