Item: SS Lyonnesse at Penzance, circa 1890
Description: Alongside the Extension Pier at Penzance lies the Isles of Scilly steamer, Lyonnesse. She was built by Harvey and Company of Hayle in 1889 for the West Cornwall Steamship Company Ltd, and registered on 17 April 1889. Here she has the original pair of tall funnels which drew too much draught through the boiler fires so were later reduced by one section. Three quay hands are working on the pier dealing with cargo. In the left foreground is the stern of a vessel waiting for the rising tide to permit access to the floating harbour.
Condition: Good - small amount of foxing to the top half of the photograph. Slight discolouration to the top edge.
