Item: The Digey looking towards Fore Street around 1929
Description: The Digey, St Ives looking towards Fore Street ; there is a cart at the end of the street. The houses often had nowhere to dry washing, hence the clothes hung over the 'balcony'. The tall chimneys indicate a facility in the basement for smoking fish. The name Digey could come from 'Dye Chy' dye house.
