Item: Tolcarne and the attempt to clear up after the Ash Wednesday Storm
Description: Storm damage to Tolcarne Inn; the lounge bar had sand up to the ceiling. Quick drying cement was used for repairs before next high tide to underpin the foundations. The building next door collapsed. The sea wall was repaired with granite but a high tide soon went straight over the top and the wall had to be enlarged. Penle Quarry was asked to contribute stone but refused
