Identification
Item: Newlyn from Le Grice's Folly/Devil's Rock
Description: A similar photograph 1990-1338 was taken 5 years earlier when the building top right was not visible. There looks to be a mine shaft on Penlee Point near the middle. This fishing fleet is not in the 1890 photo which suggests it was taken in a different season. The Cross on St Peter’s church, middle bottom third of the photo, was not in the 1890 photograph, nor did the sun appear to be shining. The irony of this being called the Devil’s Rock is that it is above St Peter’s Church and has a sharper view of the town of Newlyn. The Le Grice family owned land in and around Newlyn.
