IDENFIFICATION
Brief Description: The Treen Valley, in the parish of St Leven, runs below Treen Village which sits just behind the headland of Treryn Dinas, an Iron Age promontory fort, which overlooks Penberth Valley and Porthcurno. The first records of the name are Tredyn in 1304 and Trethyn 1314. It means farm and fort. In 1870 Francis Kilvert described Treen thus, “………and we came to a strange, bare, wild village where everything was made of granite – cottages, walls, roofs, pig sties, sheds, outbuildings, nothing but granite set up on end and roofed with other slate. The finger post signs Lands End and Penzance. The house in the foreground is Tretheene with Chynance Farm House in the middle of the picture with Chynance House to the right.
