A space for all

Built in 1865, as the home of the Branwell family. Penlee House is home to many paintings by members of the Newlyn School. It is also home to the Penzance Natural History and Antiquarian Society collection.

Families

There are lots of ways to explore Penlee House, with free gallery trails, creative materials, colouring sheets, ‘Fishermen’s Pockets’ with toys to entertain younger visitors, and dressing up! We also run regular activities for everyone from babies to big kids in the galleries. See What’s On.

Quieter Visits

For those who prefer a quieter visit, quieter times are usually after 3.00 pm on a weekday and after 3.30 pm on a Saturday. See What’s On to find out when events are happening in the galleries.

The Orangery Café

The perfect place for morning coffee, a light lunch or afternoon tea with delicious homemade cakes. Food freshly prepared to order. During your visit, relax for a while in our licensed café, with its sunny terrace overlooking the park.

The History of Penlee

Our origins as a museum date back to 1839. As a building, Penlee House dates from 1864 and was originally the home of the Branwell family. The house and park were bought for the town after the Second World War.
