Item: Two teams with horse-drawn reaping machines cutting red clover in the 1890s at an unknown location.
Description: Two horse-drawn reaping machines and agricultural workers cutting red clover in the 1890s. Red clover (trifolium species) is usually fed to horses in early summer. The reaping machines are probably Albion of Bamford. Each team has a man walking alongside with a pike to clear the clover from the knives. It was a very tangled crop to cut and so a second seat was fitted on the reaper for a man to pull the crop away from the knife as they were going along. Unknown location.
