Item: Angarrack Viaduct c.1850
Description: A group photograph of the workmen building the Angarrack railway viaduct. The viaduct, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel for the West Cornwall Railway was built wholly of timber on stone footings in 1851. It was nearly 800ft long and 100ft high. Although today no evidence remains of the structure, the stone from the original Brunel footings was re-used to construct the sea wall on the approach to Penzance railway station.
