Item: E. Looe and Looe Harbour from W. Looe, Cornwall.
Description: A view of E. Looe and Looe Harbour from W. Looe. Luggers and a vessel unloading cargo are in the harbour, and the railway line, warehouses and Banjo Pier are in the middle of the photograph, and St Nicholas' Church in W. Looe is in the foreground to the right. New quays were built by E&W Looe boroughs which altered the flow of the river and vessels were damaged according to an 1846 survey by Captain Ketch R.N. In 1848, the E&W Looe Harbour Bridge Act set up Harbour Commissioners. The railway arrived in 1860 leading to the demise of the Liskeard-Looe Canal. The Lifeboat Station and Slipway opened in 1866 and closed in 1930. In 1858, the new Looe Bridge was built upstream from the original one.
